When something breaks down in your home, it rarely happens at a convenient time. A furnace stops working during a cold snap. An appliance quits midweek when life is already busy. That’s where America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) comes in. If a covered item breaks down, our goal is simple: help you get the issue addressed quickly, clearly, and with as little stress as possible.

Our claims process is designed to be straightforward and flexible, giving you control while still providing support when you need it. From starting your claim to arranging payment, APHW is with you every step of the way.

If you’d like a quick overview before diving in, you can watch this short video that’ll walk you through the entire claims process from start to finish.

Start a Claim by Phone or Online

When a covered system or appliance stops working, the first step is to start a claim with America’s Preferred Home Warranty. We offer two easy ways to do this—so you can choose what works best for your schedule.

You can submit a claim online at any time, or you can call our customer service line directly at 888.424.8135. When you call, our AI assistant, Doris, will open a claim for you. If there’s any issue with your claim, or if you have additional questions, you will have the opportunity to speak with a customer representative.

Our representatives are available 24/7 to help answer questions and make sure your claim is started correctly.

Once your claim is submitted, APHW will provide you with a claim number. This number is important, as it’s connected to all the next steps of the process. We recommend keeping it handy so it’s easy to reference when speaking with your contractor or our customer service team.

Hire a Contractor of Your Choice

After you receive your claim number, you can schedule a contractor of your choice to diagnose the problem. One of the key benefits of an APHW home warranty is flexibility. You’re not required to work with a pre-assigned contractor. Instead, you can choose a qualified professional you know and trust.

**Please note that all contractors must be licensed where required by state law or regulation.

When the contractor arrives, explain which system or appliance isn’t working and what issues you’ve noticed. If you let them know you have a home warranty, it’s helpful to mention that they’re still free to use their own rates and parts when providing a diagnosis and repair estimate.

This allows the contractor to work as they normally would while coordinating directly with APHW for coverage approval.

Call for Approval While the Contractor Is Present

Once the contractor has diagnosed the issue—and before any repairs begin—the next step is to call APHW at 888.424.8135 while the contractor is still on site. This step helps ensure everything moves forward smoothly and avoids surprises later.

During the call, APHW will ask the contractor to explain the issue and provide a quote for the recommended repairs. Based on the diagnosis and your coverage, APHW will explain to you your repair coverage and options under your plan.

If the item and repair are covered, APHW will approve the claim and determine the coverage amount right over the phone.

This real-time approval helps everyone stay aligned before work begins, giving you confidence and clarity about what’s covered and what to expect.

Arrange Payment for Your Claim

After the repairs are completed, APHW makes payment simple and flexible. We offer multiple options to accommodate both homeowners and contractors, including:

You’ll be responsible for paying your deductible, which is based on the plan you selected when you enrolled in coverage. Your contractor can collect the deductible directly, while APHW handles the covered portion according to your plan’s terms.

Once payment has been arranged, there’s nothing more you need to do. With the claims process complete and the claim settled, you can get back to enjoying your home with peace of mind.
