Training is Kim Leahy’s dream job. She started early in the banking industry (always getting paired with new employees for orientation). Over time she found enjoyment in learning and development roles, eventually achieving Training Director—before getting laid off due to company changes. She tried to revitalize that dream in different industries, but after a few years, Michele said she was “just kind of done,”; except for her friendship with Michele Loker.
Kim met Michele through a hospitality job before Michele left to join America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) as an Area Sales Manager (ASM). “She was a changed person,” Kim said. “She just loved this company, always talking about how happy she was—and here I was barely able to get out of bed in the morning.” Michele’s employee review had piqued Kim’s interest: “So I talked to her one day to see if there was any place for someone like me.”
This is where Kim believes God really played a role. “Michele was right on the end of working on a promotion. She got it, and her slot opened up!” she said. “They picked me out of a handful of candidates, and I started as the Nevada ASM in April 2020.”
Kim thrived, despite starting her new job near the beginning of COVID in the states. “The training and support I received truly made the biggest difference,” Kim said. “The very first thing I noticed out of the gate was the way that customer service was not a glitch: There was never a time that they went down. It was amazing, and I know that made a big difference with the agents and brokerages when they were trying to call.”
Her learning and development experiences came in especially handy. “The thing I love most about this job is that there is so much of a training aspect to it,” she said. “If I’m teaching someone, they really see the value in what we have to offer, and it’s just naturally going to happen. My training background has helped me immensely.”
Finding APHW has truly been a Godsend to Kim. “This is where I want to spend the rest of my career. It’s not like any other ‘sales job’ you’ve experienced: The support here goes all the way up to the owner and CEO, and I really enjoy what I’m doing,” she said. “I’m very proud to work here, and I would definitely recommend applying to APHW.”
