“It was something I never thought I would be doing.”
Michelle, a Direct to Consumer (DTC) sales representative for America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW), had never imagined she could feel fulfilled working in a call center. “I mean, I came from working in a nursing home for seven years, and here I was, a customer service representative.”
An old boss of Michelle’s from Lansing had heard she’d moved back home to Albion, Michigan, and given her a call. “He told me, ‘I think you’ll be perfect,’ and to send in my resume. The rest is history,” she said.
She started in the Customer Service Department, and was actually quite happy there. “It’s been great, a very good learning experience,” she said. After a few years (and some badgering from friends in the nearby department), Michelle finally gave in and advanced to DTC.
“My friends have been trying to get me over here for years,” she said of the move. “I knew I didn’t want to leave APHW—I wanted to grow with the company. So, I was ready to try something different.”
The switch from customer service to direct sales was a little scary at first, but Michelle got the hang of it quickly, and now really enjoys the change. “I’ve had quite a few jobs where you don’t really want to go to work,” she said. “Here I’m up and ready to come in. Everybody here is a team player, and we all help out. It just feels like home, and I really like that.”
APHW is still growing, and will be holding a job fair on April 24 which will offer qualified applicants the opportunity for on-the-spot interviews. Michelle encourages folks to attend and see if they might be a good fit.
“If you’re looking for a well-rounded, family-oriented company with great people to work with, America’s Preferred Home Warranty is the place to be,” she said, adding, “And you definitely can grow with the company.”
