How long does a typical job hunt take? Days? Weeks? “Terri called me within five minutes of applying online,” said Amanda, recalling her quick hire into America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) in 2016. The company’s entire Accounting Department consisted of only 7 people at the time—things have changed a bit since.
Amanda started as an entry level Accounts Receivable Clerk at APHW. “I don’t know why I took the job, to be honest,” she said, noting that it had meant a 40 percent pay cut from her previous position. “Something just told me this is where I needed to be.” It must have been, because around 60 days later the company promoted her to Accounts Payable, a position much more suited to her skill set.
“It was the first time I’d ever been somewhere like this, where I knew for sure our leadership noticed hard work,” Amanda said. Her new position also afforded her more 1-on-1 time with Terri, the VP of Accounting. “She learned more about me and my leadership qualities, and right before my one-year mark, she asked if I would be interested in a leadership role.”
Amanda received that promotion to lead the Accounts Payable department, and nowadays she reports directly to Terri as an Accounting Manager over both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
“This is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before in a job setting,” Amanda said. “Our executives talk with you and get to know about you and your family. There’s definitely room to grow with how big we’re getting—Accounting is up to 20 team members now!—yet we’re still keeping that family atmosphere, which is number one.”
Amanda was also quick to recognize Terri as her number one supporter over the years. “Terri is a good teacher, and I really look forward to continuing to learn from her,” she said.
