Hey, homeowners! Jeff here for America’s Preferred Home Warranty, with tips for maintaining your HVAC system. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Turn off the system

This step is very important for electrical safety.

Step 2: Inspect your A/C unit

Clean up any leaves, branches, or other debris that might’ve built up around your A/C unit, especially after any recent storms or precipitation.

While you’re here, check hoses, fan blades, and the rest of the unit for any wear or damage. If everything looks good, head back inside.

Step 3: Replace your filters

Next, you’ll want to replace your unit’s filter(s). This should be done every 30-90 days, depending on how much you run your air conditioner.

While your HVAC unit might not look like the one in the video, open the panel, remove any old filters, and replace them with new ones. Make sure the arrows point toward the unit, as shown.

Pro Tip: If you don’t know what size filter to use, there should be measurements on the filter. You can also measure the space where the filter will be housed, to get the right fit.

Step 4: Wrap up your HVAC maintenance

Close the panel, wipe it down, and turn it back on to test your system. If it’s cold, has good air flow, and the parts of your HVAC system are working together to make the sounds they should, you’re all set!

Pro Tip: It’s still good to have a licensed HVAC tech check your system every 6 months (or when something doesn’t seem right).

Thanks for watching! Remember: Simple HVAC maintenance can save you lots of money and headaches.
